Landscaping
Background
In addition to granite, limestone have been widely used on exterior applications such as landscaping, garden paving and similar exterior projects. Despite not having a big market for public areas landscaping, Portuguese limestones have gained big popularity for the use on private residential projects, mostly for garden, entrance paving, sidewalks, and such.
Today, there are numerous harder Portuguese limestones considered for this kind of private residential projects.
Natural Stones
Garden and landscaping projects in a climate like the UK and Ireland does require specific types of limestones, which are harder, more compact and present low water porosity. With this in mind, the most suitable Portuguese limestones that have been used are some harder types of Moleanos (known as Vidraco), the Ataija limestone range, and in terms of grey color the Cadoico.
Applications
The main market for Portuguese limestones for exterior horizontal application refers mostly to private residential projects. Here, we see extensive use of this kind of stone on garden paving and the occasional pool border. There are also applications on street paving with thick cobblestones, kerbs and diverse landscaping.
