Background
Portuguese limestones have been considered for years as reference limestone to be supplied as tiles for interior flooring applications, and to some extend on wall coverings. It is here where the Portuguese stone has found its most important market in the UK and Ireland.
Additionally, but with lesser volumes, some Portuguese marble have been gaining some ground, particularly as a more economic alternative to famous Italian marble.
Natural Stones
The top limestone by far to be used on interior applications in the Uk and Ireland is the Moleanos, which is normally supplied as fine grain selection (also known as Moleanos White), medium grain selection (Moleanos Beige) or blue selection (Moleanos Blue). The Moleanos is today one of the most reputable limestones in the market. Other limestones such as Moca Cream or Rosal have become relevant players, as well as the well-known Estremoz White marble.
Applications
As mentioned, interior flooring is the most important application that uses Portuguese natural stones, most notably limestones. In addition, there is a good market for wall coverings, staircases and bath design, specially using Portuguese marble.
