Cladding
Background
Portuguese limestones have been widely used throughout the UK and Ireland on exterior cladding applications, particularly the light beige colored ones, as a direct alternative to the well-known Portland limestone.
There are numerous options of limestone in Portugal that can be a direct alternative to the Portland, either for its fine grain or light beige color. There are many reference cladding jobs, in places like London, Manchester, Dublin and so on.
Natural Stones
The preferential Portuguese limestones that are used on UK cladding project are by far the Moleanos Fine limestone, which is perhaps the closest to the Portland limestone. Other limestones such as the Cabeca Veada or Rosal have also been used, mostly due to its fine grain and uniform color tone.
Applications
In addition to ventilated façades or cladding applications, the Portuguese limestones have also been used on UK and Ireland cladding projects using a rail system, which requires certain technical specification on the stone. Due to climate and higher technical standards, there are not too many example of limestone used on glued cladding.
